Melissa Grisi, MSW, LCSW, RYT 200, is a trauma-informed yoga teacher, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and psychotherapist. Melissa obtained a Master’s in Social Work from Rhode Island College in 2007. Since then, she has earned her RYT 200 from Power Yoga Palm Springs (2018) and completed the 100-hour YogaFit for Warriors Trauma-Informed Teacher Training program (2019) and also trained with Street Yoga’s Trauma-Informed Yoga Training (2016).
Currently, Melissa teaches weekly trauma-informed yoga classes to active-duty Marines and Sailors, military spouses and veterans. In addition, she teaches gentle yoga and facilitates therapeutic workshops at a local High Desert yoga studio. Melissa has extensive training and experience working with trauma survivors as both a therapist and as a yoga teacher. She has worked in a variety of settings and offers an eclectic skill set that integrates psychotherapy with mind-body practices. Melissa’s areas of focus in her clinical practice includes trauma, anxiety, anger, addiction, codependency, life transitions, couples, and radical self-care. Born and raised in New Jersey and now living in Southern California, Melissa’s East Coast/West Coast journey infuses her yoga and therapy work; combining a no-nonsense attitude and street smarts with positive, go-with-the flow vibes.
Melissa believes yoga is for EVERY body and ANY body and her passion is bringing yoga to non-traditional settings to populations that typically do not have access to yoga. Melissa creates an environment that nurtures self-compassion and self-acceptance to meet students wherever they are in their yoga practice. Her classes are designed to offer a gentle, supportive practice suitable for all levels.
