Work Exchange SEVA Positions and Descriptions

There is an Orientation Meeting on Wednesday, September 12th @ 5pm. Your first shift may begin prior to that, or the first day of the festival (Thursday). Work requirements and total hours are listed below each department.

BOOTHS

Bhakti Shoppe:

This is the Bhakti Fest official merchandise booth. You will be helping to stock, tidy, and sell. Retail experience a plus.

Chai Lounge:

This is the Bhakti Fest official charity support booth. You will be serving delicious chai while helping to raise fund to support our dear charity Food for Life Vrindavan.

KITCHEN

The Bhakti Fest Kitchen serves the artists and staff for their meals throughout the festival. There are 5 areas of service. Food prep, Serving, Pot Washers & Food Delivery are MAHA SEVA only. Ticket-takers are Work Exchange only.

Food Prep:

Expert choppers and chefs wanted. Must have prior kitchen experience and hold a current CA Food Handlers Certificate. (reach out to get information on getting current San Bernardino County Certificate)

Arrival: Wednesday, Sept 12th, morning 10am

Food Service:

Serving up food to hungry Staff and Artists.

Arrival: Wednesday, Sept 12th, 3pm

Pot Washers:

An essential part of the flow and organization of the kitchen is the pot washing team. Able bodies who love to clean and chant are welcome to apply for this position.

Arrival: Wednesday, Sept 12th 10am

  • MAHA: up to 32 hrs (Wed-Sun)

Food Delivery:

Running food to Staff and volunteers who cannot leave their post. Prior festival volunteer experience a must.

Arrival: Wednesday, Sept 12th 10am

  • MAHA: up to 28 hrs (Wed-Sun)

Ticket-Takers:

This is a job for someone with a very graceful confidence who can talk respectfully and calmly to strangers because you will sometimes be saying “no, you don’t have the right credentials.” You will be checking artist and staff badges and meal tickets to make sure people are in the right place. Much care must be taken in either redirecting or allowing passage to the meal line.

OPERATIONS

General Help:

This team is on standby at HQ waiting for an assignment. You could be filling in for someone who didn’t show up for their shift in another department, running an errand, or restocking the HQ cooler with drinks. If you like variety, you’ll love this. Physical strength is a plus. AND being a self starter is a MUST.

Green Team:

If you have a passion for keeping the festival neat and tidy looking, this is the job for you. As this is hard work in the sun, hours are reduced for this department.

Arrival: Orientation Meeting and Training for Green Team, Wednesday, Sept 12th @ 3pm

  • MAHA: up to 28 hrs (Thur-Sun) Due to the nature of this team, access to the dining hall is provided.

Headquarters (HQ):

You will be the person at Bhakti Fest central with the walkie-talkie, relaying info to various people and putting out figurative “fires”. Excellent communication skills and alertness required. As well as a bright and cheerful demeanor.

SAFETY

First Aid:

Help festival-goers with common ailments one gets in the hot desert. Medical experience required.

Lifeguard:

Must have current certification. Want to hang out by the pool and keep attendees safe? This is the job for you!

Greeter/Security:

This team will greet newcomers and direct them to appropriate parking spaces. The team also makes sure that all festival-goers have their wristbands. Must be able to speak with confidence to strangers.

REGISTRATION DEPARTMENTS

Artist Registration:

Checking in all artists as they come on-site. If you can come early, this position can start as early as Monday. Being able to recognize most of the artists by sight will make this position a lot easier. Some advance familiarization (web research) with our artists is greatly appreciated.

Arrival: Starts early morning on Wednesday, Sept 12th

  • MAHA: 32 hrs (Wed-Sun) OR as set-up position

General Registration:

Checking in those who need to purchase or have festival tickets. Prior Bhakti Fest experience a plus, as attendee or WE. We have some shifts available on Wednesday, which would mean having one free day at the festival.

Arrival: Starts early morning on Wednesday, Sept 12th or Orientation Meeting @5PM

  • WE: 24 hrs (Wed-Sun)
  • MAHA: 32 hrs (Wed-Sun)

Housing Registration:

Checking in those who have on site housing and directing them to their rooms. Prior Bhakti Fest experience a plus, as attendee or WE. We have some shifts available on Wednesday, which would mean having one free day at the festival.

FIELD WORK

Set-up:

Those in excellent physical condition who like HARD work (heavy lifting, digging, trenching, and building, etc…) may apply. You will be working a lot in full sun. Please mention in your application if you have any special skills that would make you a great candidate for this team. Set-up needs (but is not limited to) those with electrical, construction and large tent set-up experience. No specific hours, but this team will be free to enjoy the festival.

Arrival: Saturday September 8th to be ready to work first thing Sunday morning.

  • MAHA: All Day Sun-Wed (September 9-12)

Breakdown:

Those in excellent physical condition who like HARD work (heavy lifting, digging, trenching, and building, etc…) may apply. You will be working a lot in full sun. Please mention in your application if you have any special skills that would make you a great candidate for this team. Break-down needs (but is not limited to) those with strength and experience in organizing large items for storage. No specific hours, but this team will be free to enjoy the festival.

  • MAHA: All Day Mon-Thur (September 17-20)

HOSPITALITY/STAGE/SOUND/HALLS

Green Room:

This team is constantly tidying up the space, catering to the musicians backstage, and generally playing HOST/HOSTESS. Some heavy lifting ability is a plus.

Arrival: Early morning, Wednesday Sept 12th to begin working as early as 10am.

Departure: Staying until noon on Monday is very important for clean up.

Stage Help:

Helping artists on and off stage. This job is super busy for a chunk of time, you listen to some kirtan, then you work really hard again.

Sound for Yoga Halls:

At the festival, music is not just for the stages. A lot of amazing live music is happening for yoga classes. We are always in need of people with experience running audio, whether setting up mics and mic stands, mixing, cabling, etc… (Tell your friends!) A perk: in many cases you can still take the yoga class so long as you are aware of any sound needs as you downdog.

Workshop Halls:

Assisting the workshop hall coordinator with anything and everything needed to run this area smoothly and accommodate presenters. Please be aware that some of your shifts may occur during a mealtime. Please be prepared to bring along something to snack on or plan to eat before your shift.

Yoga Halls:

Yoga classes are extremely popular and prior sign-up is encouraged. Those working in yoga halls will be checking registrants off of a master list, making sure all yogi mats are “parked” so as to optimize space, etc… Must be comfortable speaking respectfully yet firmly to strangers. Must be patient under pressure and presentable. Please be aware that some of your shifts may occur during a mealtime. Please be prepared to bring along something to snack on or plan to eat before your shift.

VENDOR REGISTRATION & SETUP

This team will need an array of skills ranging from people who can do office work (google sheets, spreadsheet formatting, etc.), registration, and also a few strong hands to bang in rebar and help with building tents. Please specify what interests you and your experience.

Arrival: As early as Tuesday night, Sept 11th for Set-up & Registration on Wed
