2. The Center for Spiritual Studies (CSS)

The Center for Spiritual Studies ("CSS") is the non-profit foundation that organizes BHAKTI FEST.  Founded in 1973, CSS was formed to generate a voice for yoga and chanting in southern California and remains dedicated to raising consciousness, bringing about spiritual awareness, and creating fellowship through our event and practices.

Exemplifying the spirit of seva, CSS provides funding and service to those in need, and those on a spiritual path. To that end, CSS makes a regular practice of providing school supplies for children in Indian villages. CSS hosted and introduced many wellknown spiritual teachers and Saints traveling to the United States  from India; as well as some of the top names in the yoga and kirtan community over the years, including:
  • Swami Muktananda in 1974, becoming the site of his first ashram in California
  • Ammachi (16 years on her visits to Los Angeles)
  • Swami Chitananda from Rishikesh
  • Swami Satchidananda -Integral Yoga Institute
  • Sri Kaleshwar
  • Kalu Rimpoche
Since 2003, CSS has assisted our dearly beloved brother Ram Dass through healthcare, funding and housing. CSS has organized retreats on Maui and the Big Island with Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, Deepak Chopra, Michael Beckwith, Shyamdas, Robert Svoboda, Byron Katie, Wayne Dyer and many others.
